RimuSDR 1.1.16 : Spot Sources

7 enhancements and 6 fixes across RimuSDR, RimuDAX and RimuCAT.

Version 1.1.16

Enhancements

RimuSDR

  • Spot Sources - RimuSDR can now collect DX spots itself and add them to the radio, so they appear on the panadapter without another program running. The sources are a DX cluster, the Reverse Beacon Network, WSJT-X or JTDX decodes, and POTA activator spots. Spots on the radio are shared, so every client connected to it shows them too. Each source is off until you turn it on in Settings > Spots Settings..., which also has a status for each source, a spot color per source, and a Passive mode that collects spots without sending any to the radio. RimuSDR keeps at most 200 of its own spots on the radio, and removes only its own spots, never those added by other programs. An icon in the status bar shows the state of the sources.
  • Spot Manager - The new Settings > Spot Manager... window shows a table of the collected spots, with search, sorting, a flag for each spot's country, and filter buttons with counts for band, mode, spotter and spotted continent, and spot types such as Fresh, Contest and park or island references. The filters set here decide which spots are sent to the radio. Click a spot to tune the active slice to it. Spots near the active slice are highlighted.
  • PGXL standby on close - A new option in Radio Setup > External > Power Genius XL (PGXL), "Put the amplifier in standby when RimuSDR closes", puts the amplifier in standby when you close RimuSDR, if it is in operate and no other GUI client is connected to the radio. The command goes through the radio, so it also works over SmartLink. The option is off by default. File > Disconnect does not change the amplifier.
  • Panadapter menus stay open - The Band, ANT, Disp and DAX menus on the panadapter now stay open while the pointer is over the menu or the panadapter buttons, and close about 4 seconds after the pointer leaves both. Picking a band no longer closes the Band menu, so you can hop through bands with one click each. Clicking elsewhere no longer closes a menu. Click the same button again, or press Escape, to close it at once. This matches SmartSDR.
  • License class order - The License Class list in Display Settings > Sub-bands now shows the classes of the shipped band plans highest first, for example Amateur Extra, Advanced, General, Technician, Novice for ARRL US. They were listed alphabetically. A custom band plan file can set its own order with the new optional license_class_order list. A file without it is listed alphabetically, as before.
  • FlexControl double-click shown - The FlexControl settings dialog, from Settings > FlexControl Knob..., now has a Double-click column that shows what a double-click does for each button's action. A double-click on any button runs the double-click action of the active knob mode: RIT and XIT modes clear and turn off RIT or XIT, APF mode turns APF on or off, and Squelch Level mode turns squelch on or off. This already worked, but the dialog did not say so. Thanks to John, G4IRN, for the suggestion.
  • Spot display settings moved - Settings > Spots... used to open the spot display settings, including the spot color overrides added in 1.1.15. These settings are now on the General tab of Settings > Spots Settings....

Fixes

RimuSDR

  • Window kept its connected state after a lost connection - When the connection to the radio was lost unexpectedly, for example by a network loss, a radio reset or a SmartLink drop, the main window kept its connected state. The SmartLink indicator stayed lit, and File > Select Radio stayed disabled, although the message tells you to reconnect from there. The window now returns to its disconnected state. A SmartLink connect that fails also no longer leaves the SmartLink indicator lit.
  • Antenna Genius ignored antenna clicks - With an Antenna Genius that does not answer one of RimuSDR's startup requests, as seen on firmware 4.1.18, RimuSDR never became ready to control it, and every antenna click was dropped with no message. RimuSDR no longer waits for that answer, so antenna clicks now switch the antenna.
  • Passband popup stuck on the panadapter - If a slice was closed while its passband popup was showing, the popup stayed on screen in the same place, and hovering a slice flag later showed a second one. The popup now closes with its slice, and also hides when the slice flag is hidden. Thanks to Ron, NI0F, for the report.

RimuCAT

  • Window height lost on reconnect - RimuCAT changed its own window height each time it connected to or disconnected from the radio, so the height you chose did not survive a reconnect. Connecting and disconnecting no longer change the window size. A short window can also no longer push the port list over the status line at the bottom. Thanks to John, G4IRN, for the report.

API Layer

  • Write to a closed connection - On Linux, a command sent after the radio had closed the connection, but before RimuSDR, RimuDAX or RimuCAT noticed, could close the application. The failed command is now reported as an error and the application keeps running.
  • Commands during a disconnect - A command sent at the moment a connection was closing could crash the application over SmartLink, or stop the disconnect from completing. Over SmartLink, sending and receiving could also use the secure connection at the same time, which it does not support. Commands sent during a disconnect are now dropped, and sending and receiving take turns. These faults were found in a code review and in testing, not reported by operators.
