RimuSDR 1.1.17 : Support for Firmware 4.3 and TCI

23 enhancements and 20 fixes across RimuSDR, RimuDAX and RimuCAT.

Version 1.1.17

Enhancements

RimuSDR

  • AutoDX panel - On radios with firmware 4.3 that have the CW decoder, such as the FLEX-8000 series and Aurora, a new ADX button in the status bar opens the AutoDX panel. AutoDX decodes received CW to on-screen text and can work a split pile-up for you: enter the DX callsign and your exchange, and it calls when it hears the DX station, sends your exchange when the DX station comes back to you, and counts the QSO. Keying the paddle or CWX hands control back to you at once, and closing the panel or disconnecting turns AutoDX off. It needs two CW slices on different frequencies, one of them the TX slice, and a callsign set on the radio. A warning icon at the top right of the panel lists what is missing, and AutoDX will not turn on until it is fixed. The decoder works without AutoDX on, and AutoDX itself needs a SmartSDR+ Early Access license on the radio. Like the DVK and CWX panels, the panel docks on either side or pops out.
  • DSP Controls window - A new button on the slice DSP page opens the DSP Controls window. The list on the left groups the algorithms under Noise Reduction, Notch Filters and Noise Blankers, with an ON tag on each one that is running. Each algorithm has a page with an On/Off button beside its title, its level, the advanced settings that firmware 4.3 adds, such as delay, window length and adapt mode, its full description from SmartSDR 4.3.16, and a Reset for that algorithm. The window also has a Reset All. The advanced settings need SmartSDR+. The DSP level slider now also shows the radio's NR, ANF and NRS levels, and NRS now runs 0-50, as in firmware 4.3. The NRF level slider and its MIDI action are removed, because the radio has no NRF level. A saved MIDI binding to it is dropped when the mapping loads.
  • Auto AGC-T - A new Auto button beside the AGC-T slider in the slice's Audio panel, and an A button in the side RX panel, turn on firmware 4.3's Auto AGC-T. It needs SmartSDR+ Early Access, and the buttons are grayed out without it.
  • Noise Floor Range - Pan Display has a new Range slider, 0 to 10 dB, below Floor on FLEX-8000 and Aurora radios. It sets how far the noise floor may move before the panadapter repositions.
  • NTP time sources - A new NTP tab in Radio Setup lists, adds, edits and removes the time sources the radio uses to set its clock.
  • PTT Override - A new PTT Override button in Radio Setup > Phone/CW makes a footswitch or other hardware PTT transmit the microphone even when DAX or remote audio is the selected source. It is off by default on firmware 4.3.
  • CW profiles - A new CW tab in Profiles > Profile Manager... creates, copies, resets, deletes and loads the CW profiles that firmware 4.3 adds. A new CW Profile drop-down at the top of the side CW panel loads one, and is hidden on radios without CW profiles. Profiles > Import/Export Profiles... now includes CW profiles.
  • Radio feature list - View > Diagnostics... > Feature List now shows every feature the radio reports, with a Stays Unlocked column for features that stay unlocked. Radio Setup > Radio > License Info also has a new View Unlocked Features button. It lists the features that stay unlocked on your radio, for example after a SmartSDR+ subscription ends, and the features included in your SmartSDR version.
  • Whole-UI scale - Settings > Display... has a new UI scale setting that makes text, controls and displays larger or smaller together. The steps are 75%, 85%, 100%, 110%, 125%, every 5% from 125% to 150%, then 175% and 200%. Restart RimuSDR to apply a change. The setting is on the tab that was titled Themes and is now titled Appearance. If QT_SCALE_FACTOR is set outside RimuSDR, it is used instead, and the tab says so.
  • APD tab in Radio Setup - Radio Setup has a new APD tab, shown only for radios that report configurable APD, such as the FLEX-8000 series and Aurora. It sets the external sampler port for each TX antenna, so you can set up External APD with an amplifier from RimuSDR, and it has a Reset button for the APD equalizer.
  • Panels dock on either side - The DVK, CWX and control panels can now go on either side of the panadapters, in any order. Drag a panel by the thin strip across its top to move it. The panadapters always stay in the middle, and the layout is kept after a restart. The default layout is unchanged until you drag a panel. This matches SmartSDR. Thanks to John, W4JCW, for the suggestion.
  • Panadapter fill and waterfall colors - The Disp menu on the panadapter can now change the panadapter fill color, on the Fill row, and the waterfall palette, on the Gain row. The fill color has a default, eight presets and More... for any color. The palettes are Classic, Grayscale, Viridis, Inferno, Cividis and Rimu. Both are RimuSDR settings and default to the previous look.
  • New Zealand and Australian band plans - Display Settings > Sub-bands > Band Privileges File now includes a built-in NZART New Zealand plan, from the NZART New Zealand Amateur Radio Band Plans chart (April 2026). It covers 2200 m to 23 cm, and on 30 m it follows the official plan, not the 10.120-10.130 MHz SSB trial. The built-in WIA Australia plan now has the Foundation and Standard license classes as well as Advanced, listed highest first in License Class. Thanks to Ron, VK4JE, for the Australian band plan. The WIA Australia plan is now at Revision 2: on 60 m, all three classes show the same 5351.5-5366.5 kHz segment with no allocation, and the 29.1-29.3 MHz segment on 10 m reads voice_(FM)_<16kHz in all three classes, so a spot there is taken as FM.
  • Main window updates - The TNF, CWX, DVK and FDX buttons in the status bar have larger text, at the same button size, and the Add Panadapter icon has a plus in its top-right corner, as in SmartSDR. The gap of about 10 pixels between the main window's left and right edges and its content is gone. The Help menu has new Support items that open the support page, the documentation and the issue report form on the website.

RimuDAX

  • RimuDAX for Windows - RimuDAX now runs on 64-bit Windows, with its own installer that needs Windows 10 version 1809 or later. On Windows, RimuDAX creates no virtual audio devices and installs no driver. It works as a TCI server only, so TCI programs take their radio control and audio from it. As on Linux, it works beside RimuSDR on the same radio. It listens on this computer only unless you change that, so the installer adds no firewall rule. The DAX audio devices stay Linux only.
  • TCI server - RimuDAX can now act as a TCI (Transceiver Control Interface) server, so TCI programs such as WSJT-X can control the radio and take its audio without a virtual audio cable. The server listens on eight ports, 50001 to 50008 by default, on this computer only unless you change it in Settings > TCI Server, which also sets the first port. Port 50001 serves transmitters 0 to 7 as DAX channels 1 to 8, so a program that only uses transmitter 0, such as WSJT-X, gets DAX channel 1 there. Ports 50002 to 50008 serve DAX channels 2 to 8, each as transmitter 0. How many channels you can use depends on your radio model, which has one DAX channel per slice it supports. A FLEX-6400 has two, so only ports 50001 and 50002 are useful there. A program sees a channel as available when a slice is assigned to that DAX channel in RimuSDR. To follow several slices with several WSJT-X instances, point each one at a different port. Two programs on two slices do not tune each other's slice, even while TX moves between them. Programs can read and set a slice's frequency, mode, filter, RIT, XIT, split, lock and drive. The main window shows the server status and the number of clients.
  • TCI receive audio and IQ - TCI programs can receive a slice's audio at 48, 24, 12 or 8 kHz, and IQ at 48, 96 or 192 kHz where the radio model offers it. A FLEX-6400 has no 192 kHz. A program can set the IQ rate: the first program to start IQ on a channel sets it, and later programs are told the rate in use. A TCI rate is never saved as your DAX IQ setting. The TCI panel shows each channel's slice, frequency, the programs using it and a level meter, and has a TCI gain slider per channel, from mute to +20 dB, with 50 as unity. If RimuSDR restarts, RimuDAX binds to it again and restarts the audio and IQ that the connected programs still want, without the programs reconnecting.
  • TCI transmit - With DAX, a digital-mode program keys the radio and tunes it through CAT, and sends its audio through the DAX audio device. With TCI, one connection does both, so TCI programs can now key, tune and transmit their own audio through RimuDAX, for example FT8 from WSJT-X, without a CAT connection for transmit. They are allowed to by default, and the TX button in the TX strip blocks them. A key is refused, and the program is told, when another TCI program is transmitting, when the slice is not one of the bound station's, or when the radio does not allow transmit on the TX slice, for example out of band. When a key must first move TX to the program's slice, RimuDAX keys only after the radio accepts the move. RimuDAX stops the transmission when any TCI program sends unkey or tune off, when the keying program disconnects or crashes, when the radio connection is lost, and when a program that is sending TX audio stops for 2 seconds. A stop from a TCI program also stops a transmission you started in RimuSDR. Every stop is always sent to the radio.
  • TCI CW, spots and meters - TCI programs can send CW through the radio's CW keyer, with macros, messages, speed and delay, and a logger can correct a message's callsign while it is still unsent. Stopping CW from the program, or any of the stops above, clears the keyer. A logger can add, replace, delete and clear its own spots on the radio. They last 30 minutes, at most 200 are on the radio at once, and RimuSDR's spots are never touched. RimuDAX tells TCI programs when you click a spot in RimuSDR. Programs can also read receive levels and transmit power, SWR and mic level.
  • DAX or TCI mode - RimuDAX now runs DAX or TCI, one at a time, chosen in a new Mode row in the main window. The TX strip with its button, gain and meter sits above the panel and serves the mode that is running. In TCI mode its button allows or blocks transmit from TCI programs. An existing installation starts in DAX mode, unless TCI was on and DAX was off. A build that has only one mode, such as the Windows one, has no Mode row.
  • Gain sliders and stream names - Each gain slider in RimuDAX now shows its value, from 0 to 100, in its label, for example TX 70. One notch of the mouse wheel moves a slider by 1, where it moved it by several. The sections of the DAX and TCI panels are now named alike, TX Stream, RX Streams and IQ Streams, and the TCI sections fold like the DAX ones.
  • Whole-UI scale and title bar - Display Settings has a new Appearance group with a UI scale setting that makes the whole window larger or smaller, with the same steps as RimuSDR. A change applies the next time RimuDAX starts. The title bar now shows RimuDAX and its version, for example RimuDAX v1.1.17.

RimuCAT

  • Whole-UI scale and title bar - Display Settings has a new Appearance group with a UI scale setting that makes the whole window larger or smaller, with the same steps as RimuSDR. A change applies the next time RimuCAT starts. The title bar now shows RimuCAT and its version, for example RimuCAT v1.1.17.

Fixes

RimuSDR

  • SmartLink radio shown as full - The Connect to Radio dialog said a SmartLink radio with one station on it had no free slots, and disabled Connect, although a second multiFLEX client could join. It now counts the free slots from the number of clients the radio's license allows. The "Free up this radio..." link also moved to the first line of the row, so the status on the second line is no longer cut off.
  • SmartLink sign-in forgotten - When a SmartLink sign-in refresh failed because of the network, a timeout or a temporary problem at the sign-in service, RimuSDR deleted your saved sign-in, so the next start asked for your password. The saved sign-in is now removed only when the sign-in service rejects it.
  • CW Autotune would not stop - In Intermittent mode, unchecking the CW Autotune button started auto-tune again instead of stopping it. Unchecking it now stops auto-tune.
  • DVK download fetched the wrong slot - Downloading a recording from the DVK panel fetched the slot below the one selected, and slot 1 asked for a slot that does not exist. It now downloads the selected slot. On firmware 4.3.16, a recording made under older firmware may still not download, because the radio does not send it.
  • CWX panel - The Live and Setup buttons always looked switched on. They now look off when they are off. After a macro was saved, reopening the panel showed the macro's old text; it now shows the text you saved. Quote marks typed around a whole macro were removed when it was saved; they are now kept.
  • FreeDV slices - Firmware 4.3 reports FreeDV slices as FDVU (upper sideband) or FDVL (lower sideband). RimuSDR now treats them like USB and LSB for the filter edge limits and the TX passband shown on the slice. The slice DSP page now hides ANF, ANFL and ANFT for them, as for the other digital modes.
  • Spot clicks onto another band - After a click on a spot in the Spot Manager moved the panadapter to another band, the sub-band color bar at the top of the panadapter was not shown on the new band, and the MIDI band up and down controls stepped from the old band. The bar now shows the sub-bands for the frequencies on screen, and the MIDI controls step from the band on screen. Thanks to Jonathan, G4IVV, for the report.
  • Side panels kept the previous radio's state - After a reconnect to a different radio without closing RimuSDR, some side panel controls kept the state of the previous radio: the APD row and the ATU indicators and buttons in the TX panel, the DAX button, the CW sidetone gain slider, and the inhibit reason in the MOX, TUNE and ATU tooltips. These controls now show the radio you are connected to.
  • Audio controls missing with a global menu bar - On a Linux desktop that shows application menus at the top of the screen, outside the window, the PC audio controls (the PC/Radio selector, mute and volume) were not shown anywhere. They now have their own row above the panadapters. Nothing changes where the menu bar is in the window.
  • Import/Export Profiles - Importing a file with Profiles > Import/Export Profiles... did not work. RimuSDR sent the radio an empty selection, and the radio replied with a file transfer failure. Only the items you tick are now sent. The Preferences, TNF, XVTR and USB cable settings in a radio's export file were also never listed as categories on the Import tab, and the list of categories could run past the bottom of the window. Both are fixed.
  • Memory Channels and memory import - The Memory Channels dialog did not update when the radio reported a change to a memory, kept the previous radio's memories after a reconnect, and could remove the wrong memories if the list changed while the confirmation box was open. It sorted number columns as text, so 14.074 came before 7.074, and a step above 10 kHz was changed to 10 kHz when you pressed Enter in its editor. All of these are fixed, and the Group, Owner, Name, Mode and Tone Value cells now hold at most 32 characters. A memory whose status from the radio had one unreadable field was also left out of the list. It now appears with the fields that could be read. Importing a memory CSV file with Import/Export Profiles... never worked. It now sends the memory groups you tick to the radio, and shows the result.
  • Network MTU forgotten - The MTU you set in Setup > Network was not saved, and RimuSDR set 1450 on every connect. The MTU is now saved, from 900 to 1500 with 1450 as the default, and sent on every connect, whichever radio you connect to.
  • Waterfall hid lost lines - When waterfall lines were lost, for example on a SmartLink connection, the waterfall closed up the gaps, so its time scale covered more real time than its labels said. Each lost line now shows as a dark row, and the time scale stays true. Thanks to Len, KD0RC, for finding this.
  • Waterfall drag tuned the slice - Dragging on the waterfall inside a slice's passband tuned the slice instead of sliding the display. A drag in the top part of the waterfall, under a slice flag, did nothing at all. A drag on the waterfall now always slides the display, as in SmartSDR. Double-click on the waterfall still tunes, or a single click when Single click to tune is on. Thanks to Ron, NI0F, for the report.
  • Status bar version and clock - The version under the radio nickname in the status bar was RimuSDR's own version, so it read as the radio's. It now shows the connected radio's version, for example v4.2.20, and is hidden while no radio is connected. RimuSDR's version is still in the window title and in Help > About. On Windows, the UTC clock changed width slightly as the time changed, so the items to its left moved. The clock, date, PA temperature and volts now use the fixed-width Consolas font, as does other fixed-width text, such as in System Info.

RimuDAX

  • DAX channel lost after a slice change - After a slice's DAX channel was changed in RimuSDR, for example set to None and back, RimuDAX could leave the channel on No Slice while its audio still flowed, or keep an old slice on another channel. Only a reconnect put it right. RimuDAX now follows every change of a slice's DAX channel. Thanks to Ray, G6UJB, for the report.
  • Reconnect at startup by IP address - Reconnect at startup could not reach a radio that you last connected to by IP address, for example over a VPN or another routed network, because RimuDAX only looked for the radio's name on the local network. RimuDAX now saves the address and connects to it directly, and the Connect to Radio dialog marks the last radio and fills in its address.
  • DAX IQ sample rates - RimuDAX now offers 192 kHz DAX IQ on every model that supports it, which adds the FLEX-6700R, FLEX-8600, FLEX-8600M, AU-520 and AU-520M. A saved rate that the connected model does not support is no longer sent to the radio. RimuDAX uses the model's lowest rate for that session and keeps your saved rate for a radio that supports it.

RimuCAT

  • Reconnect at startup by IP address - Reconnect at startup could not reach a radio that you last connected to by IP address, for example over a VPN or another routed network, because RimuCAT only looked for the radio's name on the local network. RimuCAT now saves the address and connects to it directly, and the Connect to Radio dialog marks the last radio and fills in its address.
  • FreeDV filter presets and logging - Firmware 4.3 reports FreeDV slices as FDVU or FDVL. RimuCAT placed filter presets for both on the upper sideband, and logged no mode to Wavelog. FDVU and FDVL now use the DIGU and DIGL filter presets, and both log to Wavelog as DIGITALVOICE.
