CTR2-Dial¶
CTR2-Dial is the MIDI firmware for the Lynovation touch-dial controllers: CTR2-Uno, CTR2-Duo, and CTR2-Quad. It also runs on the older CTR2-Dial and CTR2-Flex hardware.
The buttons and dials are virtual. The touch screen shows each control with its label.
Step 1 - Prepare the controller¶
-
Connect the controller to a USB port.
Use a USB data cable, not a power-only cable.
-
For CW keying, use the USB connection rather than Bluetooth. Bluetooth adds delay to each key press.
-
In the Settings menu on the controller, set Ctrl Map to Map 1.
Do not use the WheelB control type
Map 2 uses WheelB for tuning, and WheelB does not work with RimuSDR. RimuSDR reads each WheelB tick as a large WheelA movement, so tuning runs backwards and much too fast.
Do not give any dial the WheelB or WheelB-r control type.
Step 2 - Load the template¶
-
Start RimuSDR.
-
Select Settings | MIDI Controller....
-
Confirm the MIDI Device list has the controller selected.
- If it is your only controller, RimuSDR selects it automatically.
- If it is not selected, select the device with
CTR2-DialorSTAMP_S3in its name. - If the list is empty, click the refresh button beside the list.
-
Select Mapping | New from template | CTR2-Dial.
-
A message reports that the template loaded with 54 bindings. Click OK.
The template follows the factory labels of Map 1, so each control does what its label says.
| Dial label | Message | RimuSDR function |
|---|---|---|
| VFO | CC 100 | [RX] Frequency Tune |
| Volume | CC 101 | [RX] AF Gain |
| AGC-T | CC 102 | [RX] AGC-T |
| WNB Lv | CC 103 | [RX] WNB Level |
| NB Lv | CC 104 | [RX] NB Level |
| NR Lv | CC 105 | [RX] NR Level |
| RIT Fq | CC 107 | [RX] RIT Offset |
| XIT Fq | CC 108 | [RX] XIT Offset |
| RFPwr | CC 109 | [TX] RF Power |
| Speed | CC 110 | [PCW] CW Speed |
| Mic Gn | CC 111 | [PCW] Mic Gain |
| ANF Lv | CC 114 | [RX] ANF Level |
| APF Lv | CC 115 | [RX] APF Level |
The template also binds 37 buttons: the mode buttons, the band buttons, and Mode ^, Step ^ and v, Band ^ and v, Zoom in and out, RIT Tgl, XIT Tgl, Mute, WNB, NB, NR, APF, ANF, VOX, and ATU.
Controls with no matching RimuSDR function do nothing. These are the BW, Zoom, Balance, and SAT dials, and the Band<>, A<>B, A>B, B>A, ATU Bypass, ATU Mem, RX antenna, and macro buttons.
Step 3 - Save the mapping¶
-
Click Save.
-
Keep the suggested folder and file name,
CTR2-Dial.json. -
Click Save.
RimuSDR loads this mapping automatically the next time you connect the controller.
Step 4 - Keys, paddles, and PTT¶
Pushbuttons differ by model
The CTR2-Quad has physical pushbuttons, and a pushbutton can key PTT. By default Pushbutton 2 keys PTT (Note 99), and that pushbutton is also hardwired to the PTT input on the ring of the Key/PTT jack. To change which pushbutton keys PTT, go to page 4 of the Settings menu on the controller.
The CTR2-Uno and CTR2-Duo have no pushbuttons. On these, use the jack or the PTT page.
Paddles¶
- Connect the paddles to the paddle jack.
- In the Settings menu on the controller, keep Pdl-> at 96/97.
- In the CW panel, set Iambic on.
Straight key and PTT switch¶
- Wire the straight key to tip and sleeve, and the PTT switch to ring and sleeve.
- On a CTR2-Quad, connect the plug to the Key/PTT jack. On the other units, connect it to the paddle jack.
- In the Settings menu, set Pdl-> to 98/99 and keep PTT-> at 99.
- In the CW panel, set Iambic off.
On-screen PTT¶
- Open the PTT page on the controller.
- Touch and hold the display. The radio transmits in voice modes.
- Lift your finger. The radio stops transmitting.
Step 5 - Test the controller¶
-
Connect to the radio.
-
Turn the VFO dial. The frequency of the active slice changes.
-
Touch the Mute button. The RX audio mutes.
-
Set the slice mode to CW, and set Iambic on in the CW panel.
-
Press a paddle.
-
Confirm you hear the sidetone.
The radio transmits with Breakin on
With Breakin on, the radio transmits each time you press a paddle. Connect an antenna or a dummy load first. Make sure the frequency is clear and that you are permitted to transmit.
-
To transmit, set Breakin on in the CW panel.
-
Press a paddle. The radio transmits.
