CTR2-Max

CTR2-Max is the Lynovation touch-screen controller with physical knobs. The Max-5 has five knobs, four pushbuttons, a paddle jack, and a Key/PTT jack.

The Max has two operating modes, Flex WiFi and MIDI. RimuSDR uses MIDI mode.

Step 1 - Prepare the controller

  1. Connect the CTR2-Max to a USB port.

    Use a USB data cable, not a power-only cable.

  2. For CW keying, use the USB connection rather than Bluetooth. Bluetooth adds delay to each key press.

  3. Put the controller in MIDI mode. Open the Settings menu, go to the last page, and select Run MIDI Mode.

    If the menu shows Run Flex WiFi Mode instead, the controller is already in MIDI mode.

  4. In the Settings menu, set Ctrl Map to Map 1.

    Map 2 uses the WheelB control type for tuning, and WheelB does not work with RimuSDR.

  5. In the Settings menu, keep Pdl->MIDI at 96/97 and PTT->MIDI at 99.

Step 2 - Load the template

  1. Start RimuSDR.

  2. Select Settings | MIDI Controller....

  3. Confirm the MIDI Device list has the CTR2-Max selected.

    • If it is your only controller, RimuSDR selects it automatically.
    • If it is not selected, select the device with CTR2 in its name.
    • If the list is empty, click the refresh button beside the list.

  4. Select Mapping | New from template | CTR2-Max.

  5. A message reports that the template loaded with 61 bindings. Click OK.

The template follows the map file that Lynovation ships for RimuSDR. The display on the Max shows the MIDI control number above each control's label.

The template also binds 45 buttons on Notes 1 to 47: the mode buttons, the band buttons, and Mode Cycle, Band Up and Down, Tune Step Up and Down, Zoom In and Out, Filter Preset Next and Prev, Mute, NR, NB, ANF, RIT, XIT, Squelch, MON, VOX, ATU, Breakin, MOX, and Tune (carrier).

To find the row for a control, operate the control. The dialog selects the matching row.

Step 3 - Save the mapping

  1. Click Save.

  2. Keep the suggested folder and file name, CTR2-Max.json.

  3. Click Save.

RimuSDR loads this mapping automatically the next time you connect the controller.

Step 4 - Keys, paddles, and PTT

Pushbutton 2 keys PTT by default

A pushbutton can key PTT. By default Pushbutton 2 does (Note 99), and it is also hardwired to the PTT input on the ring of the Key/PTT jack. To change which pushbutton keys PTT, go to page 3 of the Settings menu on the controller.

The MOX button (Note 23) toggles transmit on and off. It does not hold PTT.

Paddles

  1. Connect the paddles to the paddle jack.
  2. In the Settings menu, keep Pdl->MIDI at 96/97.
  3. In the CW panel, set Iambic on.

Straight key and PTT switch

  1. Wire the straight key to tip and sleeve, and the PTT switch to ring and sleeve.
  2. Connect the plug to the Key/PTT jack. The straight key sends Note 98, and the PTT switch sends Note 99.
  3. In the CW panel, set Iambic off.

On-screen PTT

  1. Open the PTT page on the controller.
  2. Touch and hold the display. The radio transmits in voice modes.
  3. Lift your finger. The radio stops transmitting.

Step 5 - Test the controller

  1. Connect to the radio.

  2. Turn the VFO dial, CC 100. The frequency of the active slice changes.

  3. Press the Mute button. The RX audio mutes.

  4. Set the slice mode to CW, and set Iambic on in the CW panel.

  5. Press a paddle.

  6. Confirm you hear the sidetone.

The radio transmits with Breakin on

With Breakin on, the radio transmits each time you press a paddle. Connect an antenna or a dummy load first. Make sure the frequency is clear and that you are permitted to transmit.

  1. To transmit, set Breakin on in the CW panel.

  2. Press a paddle. The radio transmits.
